Press Conference by SUZUKI Shunichi, Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Financial Services
(Excerpt)
(Tuesday, February 14, 2023, 9:21 am to 9:28 am)
[Opening remarks:]
Yesterday, February 13th, was NISA Day, and I would like to talk about next initiatives relating to NISA.
The government has positioned this year as the first year of realizing its Doubling Asset-based Income Plan, and will be working to popularize the NISA system and its use.
More specifically, the Financial Services Agency will be actively advertising NISA to all generations through TV, the Internet, SNS and other media, collaborating with local finance bureaus on holding seminars to deepen understanding of NISA and provide other financial and economic education, as well as seminars for national public officials based on the idea of having them first undertake the actions they call on others to take.
Since the support of companies is extremely important in helping the people who work for them build up financial assets more, we will also be supporting companies’ efforts to popularize the NISA system.
Furthermore, we will be submitting a bill to the Ordinary Diet session designed to put in place an environment in which our citizens can take steps to build their financial wealth with peace of mind. The bill calls for creating a Organization for the Promotion of Financial and Economic Education (tentative name) by the end of 2024 to provide financial and economic education from a neutral standpoint, establishing and improving customer-oriented operation not only for financial businesses but also for corporate pension funds, and formulating basic policies that promote nationwide measures to support asset building as a national strategy.
The government will mobilize these various measures to achieve the goals of its Doubling Asset-based Income Plan and enable a wide range of people, especially in the middle class, to steadily build financial asset.
