DonationsNEW

At the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 and the Earthquake Centered in the Kumamoto Region of Kumamoto Prefecture 2016, there were many cases of bank transfer fraud disguised as collection of relief money while there were active fund-raising campaigns for the reconstruction of the disaster-affected areas.

Likewise, there is a risk of such despicable crimes at the time of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in 2024.

Please be careful not to fall victim to fraud pretending to be a call for donation.

[Specific cases of suspected fraud at the time of past disasters and the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in 2024]

  • Pretending to be a well-known volunteer organization to trick people via telephone, fax, etc. into transferring their donations to an account different from the organization's genuine one.
  • Making a phone call under the disguise of a public institution to ask for donations in the name of "disaster relief" and have the recipient of the phone call transfer money.
  • Using social media to show a fictional address for a rescue request, report that rescue has occurred, and ask to send electronic money in the name of donations for future expenses.

[To avoid becoming a victim]

Before making a donation transfer (including sending electronic money or crypto-assets), please make sure that the fund recipient is a genuine organization or a trustworthy organization or individual by verifying that the recipient’s information such as its account number and name is the same as that publicly announced on television, newspapers, etc.

If you feel even a little suspicious, please provide the information to or consult with the police (the nationwide speed dial "#9110" or the nearest police headquarters or police stations) or Counseling Office for Financial Services Users, Financial Services Agency  (0570-016811 (IP phone: 03-5251-6811)).
